Securus Technologies Files Complaints Against GTL

Securus Technologies, a provider of technology solutions for the civil and criminal justice systems has announced that it is releasing multiple facts and findings that highlight the wrongdoings and breaches of honesty by inmate communications provider Global Tel Link or GTL. This press release is the first in a series of publications by Securus highlighting the wrongdoings of Global Tel Link.
Rick Smith, CEO of Securus Industries, has been quoted by the PR Newswire team saying that he loves this industry because it helps and serves law enforcement, corrections, and inmates and their families. Because he loves this industry he is offended when a carrier like GTL does not. Because a company’s mission is more than just making money it is in helping to serve the customers having their best interests at heart.

Because of this, Securus will review several issues involving systematic wrongdoing and potential wrongdoing by Global Tel Link all detailed in a series of press releases over the next 6 months. This is being done in an effort to shame GTL into acting with higher integrity towards its customers. The first of these complaints involves formal order No. U-20784-B that was issued by the Louisiana Public Service Commission and is related to GTL’s actions when they provided telecom services to thousands of inmates in the Louisiana Department of Corrections facilities. A number of irregularities and criminal acts by GTL were uncovered then including:

Programming its telephone clocks used in institutions to add additional time to each call

Adding artificially inflated charges to its customer’s calls

Billing customer calls more than once

In many instances, the over billing by GRL was willingly and knowingly done

As a consequence of the above acts Louisiana taxpayers were overcharged $1,242,000.00
