Adam Milstein is a name in the Jewish community that is highly respected and has been the founder of several privately-funded activist groups. His first big career accomplishment was founding Hager Pacific Properties nearly 30 years ago, and then forming the Adam Milstein Family Foundation and the Israeli-American Council through which many of his contributions to Jewish Americans have been channeled. The foundation has contributed millions of dollars to Jewish Americans, but the Milstein’s have actively volunteered for many activities their partnering foundations have hosted. He has been mentioned several times in business magazines, and Richtopia listed him as one of the World’s 200 Most Influential Philanthropists, a list that also includes Warren Buffet, Oprah Winfrey, Bill Gates and Elton John.
One of Adam Milstein’s first passions is supporting the nation of Israel and bringing international awareness to all issues affecting his homeland. He was born in Israel not long after it had become a modern nation again, and when he turned 19 he joined the Israeli Defense Forces. His 4-year military service included fighting in the Yom Kippur War in 1973, and in 1974 after he returned home he married Gila Elgrably.
In the years after completing military service to Israel, Milstein completed his formal education with a bachelor’s degree from the Technion, Israeli Institute of Technology and a master’s from USC after relocating to the US. He and David Hager cofounded Hager Pacific properties several years after working for another real estate broker. They took the company from beginning to a billion-dollar firm that owns properties across California, Texas, Illinois and Wisconsin.
Philanthropy is a key part of Milstein’s day, and the Milstein Family Foundation has three values that have been its cornerstone. First, Adam and Gila believe in active philanthropy and giving of their personal time to every non-profit group they contribute financially to. Second, they believe in path life impact, or educating the groups they target for philanthropy in their roots, including teaching Hebrew to families. And finally, they believe in philanthropic synergy which involves organizing activities with other non-profit leaders, and this includes organizations such as StandWithUs, Hasbara Fellowhsips, Israel on Campus Coalition, Jerusalem U and Birthright Israel.
